I started as a loan officer in 1986 when fixed rates were 9 ½ % and everyone was refinancing their loans down from 12%. Much has changed in our industry since then. Technology is obviously the biggest change as borrowers can now apply on line and often never meet their loan officer face to face. What has not changed however is the need for the loan officer to have excellent attention to detail. With dozens of new lending laws the mortgage process can still be complicated. What also has not changed is my commitment to serving my borrowers and making sure they get to closing on time with no surprises or hassles. When a moving van is lined up, borrowers want to know that they will be moving in as scheduled. Virtually all of my business comes from repeat customers and referrals so I have a vested interest in making sure the loan process goes smoothly.
